“Guardians of Galaxy” About to beat Transformers IV as the summers biggest domestic Hit earning $200 million in 15 days

Disney-Marvel’s intergalactic pic reached the epic milestone on Friday, in just 15 days, and will haul as much as $221 million by Sunday. After opening to a whopping $94.3 million (and crushing the record for August’s top debut), “Guardians” has been runner-up to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” at the box office for the last two consecutive weekends.

“Guardians” earned $7 million on Friday en route for a $23 million weekend.

The sci-fi adventure about a rag-tag group of heroes, which cost $170 million to produce, is a hit with both critics and audiences, earning 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper (the voice of Rocket) and Vin Diesel (the voice of Groot). A sequel has already been slated for July 28, 2017.

“Guardians” is on its way to becoming the top summer film Stateside. Paramount’s “Transformers: Age of Extinction” is the current domestic leader with $243.1 million. The fourth pic in Michael Bay’s growing franchise is also the only movie to cross $1 billion worldwide this year, having earned most of its money (over 75%) overseas.

With $236.4 million, Disney’s “Maleficent” is the summer’s current no. 2 movie. Fox’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is third with $232.2 million, “Guardians” is fourth based on Friday figures with $204.5 million and Sony’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ rounds out the top five with $202.8 million.

Counting down the days! With his patience running out, LeBron James revealed the name he and his pregnant wife Savannah Brinson have picked out for their unborn daughter during a Greece babymoon on Friday, Aug. 15.

"Mykonos Greece is spectacular! Push gift to my wife @mrs_savannahrj!" the 29-year-old wrote via Instagram. "Zhuri hurry up and get here so your daddy and 2 brothers can annoy you! Lol." (The couple are already parents to sons LeBron James Jr., 8, and Bryce Maximus, 6.)

it was confirmed in September of last year that LeBron and Brinson tied the knot at the Capella Chapel at the Grand Del Mar hotel in San Diego, Calif. Back in June, Miami Heat president Pat Riley revealed the high school sweethearts were expecting their third child together.

"Savannah now is going to have a little baby girl to join her in the fight against the two boys and LeBron, which she needs," Riley told reporters during a press conference.

Expanding his family isn't the only big change for LeBron. The NBA star recently announced he will be leaving the Miami Heat and returning to his hometown of Cleveland to play again for the Cavaliers.

Ebola Update: Catholic bars corpses in churches In Markudi, Nigeria

The Catholic diocese of Makurdi, Benue, has barred the faithful from taking corpses of late relations to churches for funeral Mass as a measure to check the spread of Ebola virus.

The diocese directed that corpses of deceased members should be given immediate burial.

It, however, said that it would allow corpses to be brought to the churches in the area only when death certificates issued by relevant medical authorities were produced.

This is contained in a statement by the Director of Communications in the diocese, Rev. Fr. Moses Iorapuu, in Makurdi on Saturday.

The statement, which was issued on behalf of Bishop of the diocese, Very Rev. Athanissius Usu, also announced changes in two aspects of activities during mass, including the mode of administering the Holy Communion.

According to the statement, parishioners will henceforth be served the eucharistic feast on their hands as against the practice of putting it on their tongue by the priest.

Also, it said, the exchange of the sign of peace, involving handshakes has been replaced with other suitable gestures to avoid the possibilities of contacting the Ebola virus.

The diocese advised priests, who conduct pastoral visitation to hospitals to be cautious and seek doctor’s permission before touching sick people with undisclosed illnesses.

It also announced the prohibition of group prayer sessions that involved touching and praying over unknown sicknesses.

According to the statement, the measures, which are in accordance with Federal Government’s directive on ways to prevent the spread of Ebola virus, are aimed at safeguarding the health of members.

“We hope that with these preventive pastoral and standard procedures and with prayers and steadfastness in responsible behaviours, the Lord will keep this virus away from us.

“We also encourage personal hygiene, washing of hands regularly, clean environment and eating habits.

“We urge you not to ignore government’s advice and other official statements on how to prevent the outbreak of Ebola virus,” it stated. (NAN)

Unarmed 25 year old "Ezell Ford" Fatally Shot by LAPD During 'Investigative Stop' - Report

On Wednesday evening, the lawyer for the family of Ezell Ford, the unarmed Black 25-year-old fatally shot by Los Angeles police on Monday, announced his plans to “immediately” file a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city’s police department.

"Justice will come to this family in federal court, not on TV,” attorney Steve Lerman told MSNBC.

According to a news release by the LAPD, a struggle between Ford and patrol officers occurred during an “investigative stop” in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The statement reports that the struggle “resulted in an officer-involved-shooting.”

Ford, who was described as mentally ill, was reportedly brought to a local hospital where he died.

An eyewitness told The Huffington Post that police had Ford on the ground and had yelled “shoot him” before Ford was shot with three bullets.

"So as he was walking down the street, the police approached him, whatever was said I couldn't hear it, but the cops jumped out of the car and rushed him over here into this corner,” Leroy Hill told The Huffington Post. "They had him in the corner and were beating him, busted him up, for what reason I don't know; he didn't do nothing."

The family’s attorney told MSNBC that Ford was not armed at the time of his death.

"He was mentally challenged,” Lerman said. "This is not the person that's lurking behind a corner with a gun. He's not a gangbanger. Walking down a city street, a citizen of Los Angeles, walking down a city street unarmed at 8:00 on a Monday night."

Ford's family members also told KTLA that the young man was complying with police orders when he was shot.

The shooting of Ford came just days after the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. The unarmed teen was also fatally shot by local police, inciting unrest that has continued to rock the suburb outside of St. Louis and draw national attention.

It is sad to break the news but one of the nurses who treated Patrick Sawyyer who died of the ebola virus is now dead.

According to Vanguard news,
A nurse, Justina Obi Echelonu, one of the primary contacts who participated in the initial management of the index case, late American-Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, at the First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Lagos, has died in quarantine.

She is the second nurse and fourth fatality of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu confirmed her death yesterday at a joint press briefing with the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, in Abuja.

Chukwu, who disclosed that another of the doctors who treated the late Patrick Sawyer tested positive to the deadly virus, said Nigeria has now recorded 10 confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, of which four have died and six are currently under treatment.

“The total number of persons under surveillance in Lagos is now 169. These are all secondary contacts as all the primary contacts have completed the 21-day incubation period and have been de-listed to resume their normal lives,” the Minister explained.

Earlier, a top medical expert who is part of the medical team of experts managing confirmed cases at the Ebola Ward of the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, said the nurse passed away in the early hours of yesterday.

“We lost her in the early hours of today after much effort. She was one of the people that helped Sawyer when he was vomiting and stooling. That was when she contacted it,” he remarked.

Ebola Update: FG says 198 Nigerians quarantined

The Federal Government on Wednesday said a total of 198 persons are currently being quarantined for the Ebola Virus Disease.

It said while 177 are being quarantined in Lagos where the index case was reported, 21 persons are being attended to in Enugu.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents of the outcome of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Maku said Enugu came into the picture because one of the nurses that treated the American-Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, who brought the virus to the country disobeyed medical advice and travelled to Enugu.

He said all those the nurse had contacts with, including her husband, are currently being quarantined.

The minister said, “All those who had primary contacts have been quarantined. Secondary contacts have also been traced.

“So far, the number of people that have been traced is 198. Out of this number, 177 are in Lagos. Some are in quarantine, some are being monitored by health specialists.

“21 persons in Enugu are also being watched. This is because one of the nurses that was involved with the treatment of the index case, unfortunately, disobeyed medical instructions and somehow travelled to Enugu.

“All those who she was in contact with including her husband are under quarantine. The medical team have been to traced all those who made contact with her.

EBOLA UPDATE: Beware of burial ceremonies – President Goodluck Jonathan

 President Goodluck Jonathan has summoned all the 36 state governors and their health commissioners   to an urgent meeting on the outbreak of the Ebola Virus disease in the country.
Jonathan, who made this known during a conference organised by the Interfaith Initiative For Peace in Abuja on Monday, said it was “unfortunate that one mad man” brought the virus to Nigeria.
Before he spoke, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, had disclosed at a news   conference that Nigeria had recorded another   Ebola case, the 10th so far.
The case involves   a nurse, who is one of the health workers that managed Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American in a Lagos hospital that brought the deadly virus to Nigeria on July 20. He died on July 25 and is the first known Ebola index case in the country.
The matron of the Lagos hospital   died last week at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Yaba, Lagos where the   seven other   known Ebola cases are being managed by experts.
The meeting between Jonathan, governors and health commissioners   will hold at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.
The President, who was   responding to some children who had during their presentation during the conference, explained that the meeting revued up Federal Government’s efforts aimed at containing the spread of the EVD.
He promised that his administration would do everything humanly possible to contain the emergency health situation posed by the virus in the country.
Jonathan said, “As a government, we promise we will do everything possible to contain Ebola.
“We are doing our best, on Wednesday I am going to meet with all the governors of the states. They will come with their Commissioners   for Health.
“We must make sure that every state is prepared, where they lack, the Federal Government will support them   in containing the Ebola virus.
“It is unfortunate that one mad man brought the Ebola virus to us; but we have to contain it. This is a good forum that we will use to also plead with our religious leaders to, in their preachings communicate clearly   because people listen to you more than they listen to politicians.”

His longtime publicist Mara Buxbaum confirmed the Oscar winner's death in a statement, which read: "Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

Comedian Robin Williams Found Dead At 63 From A Reported Suicide

I hate to post this devastating news But it has been reported that Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead in his Tiburon, Calif. home on Aug. 11. He was 63.

The world lost a great talent on Aug. 11, when legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead of a reported suicide at age 63. His cause of death is believed to be suicide by asphyxiation, according to the local coroner’s office.

Robin’s publicist Mara Buxbaum has not confirmed whether his death was a suicide, but she issued the following statement, according to our sister site Variety:

“Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division also released a statement that read:

    On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 am, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at 12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63 year old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA.

    An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.

Ebola Update: The Deadly Virus Might Have Started With A 2 year Old In Guinea

This might be the beginning of the end of the world, but anyway according to Cable Network News, The worst outbreak of Ebola, which has killed 961 people and triggered an international public health emergency, may have started with a 2-year-old patient in a village in Guinea.

About eight months ago, the toddler, whom researchers believe may have been Patient Zero, suffered fever, black stool and vomiting.

Just four days after showing the painful symptoms, the child died on December 6, 2013, according to a report published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Scientists don’t know exactly how the toddler contracted the virus.

Ebola is spread from animals to humans through infected fluids or tissue, according to the World Health Organization.

Courtney Love admits to losing $27 million {Nirvana's Money}

Courtney Love estimates she’s lost about $27 million in her tumultuous hard-rock life.

“I know that’s a lifetime of money to most people,” Love tells Britain’s Daily Mail. “But I’m a big girl, it’s rock ’n’ roll, it’s Nirvana money, I had to let it go,” she said, referring to the band founded by her late husband, Kurt Cobain.

Refusing to show signs of bitterness, the 50-year-old singer, songwriter and actress explained that her current income allows her to enjoy a comfortable life.

“I make enough to live on. I’m financially solvent. I focus on what I make now.”

Love attributed her overwhelming misfortunes with money to a number of settled lawsuits, adding that she is still in the midst of upholding her name in court in several libel cases which deal with claims related to her use of prescription drugs.

She’ll soon be joining the cast of the FX series “Sons of Anarchy.”

Neverland’s manicured lawns and fairy-tale facade masked a house of horrors and madness, five of Michael Jackson’s maids revealed to The Post.

“Michael sometimes ran around where the animals were, and he’d track . . . poop throughout the house and think nothing of it,” Maid No. 1 recalled. “Then, if you said something, he’d threaten to make doo-doo snowballs and throw it at you.”

When Oprah Winfrey visited the Los Olivos, Calif., ranch for an interview in 1993, it was pristine. Floors were waxed, walls scrubbed and windows power-washed.

It was after she, guest Elizabeth Taylor and TV crews left the next morning that the real Jacko appeared.

“He literally peed on the floor of the entryway, right where you saw Oprah walk in. It was surreal. He just stood there, unzipped his trousers and watered the floor,” Maid No. 2 said.

Jackson had been relatively clean and orderly up until 1993, when 13-year-old Jordan Chandler became the first child to publicly accuse Jacko of molestation.

The accusations sent Jacko into a stupor, with the singer checking into drug rehabilitation in Switzerland and hiding out overseas until attorney Johnnie Cochran secured a guarantee from the Los Angeles district attorney that he would not be arrested upon his return to the states.
Jacko later paid Jordan and his parents more than $20 million in exchange for the boy’s silence.

“His whole life changed after 1993 when he had to pay that boy off. I’m telling you, he was the dirtiest, most unsanitary person in Hollywood,” Maid No. 3 said.

Now the court will hear accusations against Jackson again. A former Jacko pal and choreographer, Wade Robson, has filed suit against the pop star’s estate.

Robson, who appeared in Jacko’s music videos as a boy, stood by him at his 2005 criminal trial in which the singer was alleged to have molested another young boy, cancer patient Gavin Arvizo.

As a defense witness, Robson said he was never molested by the pop icon — although he and his mother and sister testified that Jacko would cry if denied permission to sleep with him.

But in a court filing made public last week, Robson alleged Jacko raped him as a boy. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff has scheduled an initial hearing in the case for Oct. 6.

Several of Jacko’s former maids are expected to be called as witnesses for Robson. The maids, who worked for Jacko between 1986 and 2004, spoke to The Post on the condition of anonymity.

During the star’s 2005 child-molestation trial, Kristina Fournier, who worked for more than a decade as Jacko’s housekeeper, testified that she saw syringes strewn about the property and that Jacko, usually stoned, regularly babbled unintelligibly.

Serena Loses To Sister Venus In Roger Cup Semifinals

This is the first time Venus has beaten Serena in over five years to go on to the final round.

Venus Williams, 34, and Serena Williams, 32, take sibling rivalry to a whole new level. The sisters met up for the Rogers Cup semi-finals on Aug. 9 in Montreal. Venus walked away with the win and clinched her first victory against her sister in over five years.  Congrats, Venus!
