Michael Phelps: Out Of Retirement For One Last Shot At Olympic Glory



A 22-time olympic medalist, Michael Phelps is out of retirement and back in training for one more shot at Olympic glory during the 2016 summer games.
Michael Phelps, 28, hasn’t competed in the pool since the London 2012 Games but according to his coach Bob Bowman he’s ready to dive headfirst back into training once more for the gold.

Michael’s coach has already entered him into his first competition. The low-key swim meet will be in Mesa, Ariz on April 24-26.

“I think he’s just going to test the waters a little bit and see how it goes,” Bob told the Associated Press. “I would say it’s a full-fledged comeback.”

Michael will be entered in three events, the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle, as well as the 100 meter butterfly.

Michael got his feet wet again during several fall training sessions and from there he re-entered the U.S. drug-testing program. Michael has already completed his six-month waiting period by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to be eligible for competition.

Now it’s just about putting in the work and improving on where he left off back in 2012. Any athlete knows you’re only as good as your last performance.

Bob said the big Maryland native is “pretty far” from being back in top shape, and that Michael’s been training Monday through Friday with Bob’s club team at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.

Michael will not be the only Olympian in attendance at the meet, USA Swimming said Olympians Ryan Lochte and Katie Ledecky will be among those expected to swim in the Arena Grand Prix in Arizona as well.
