A shoulder to lean on might just be a d**k to ride on. Katy was there for Rob when he and Kristen Stewart split — now it’s his turn to be there for Katy. A new report claims that R-Patz has been Katy’s rock following her breakup with John Mayer, but is his friendly support turning into something more romantic?
It’s no secret that Katy Perry and Robert Pattinson are close — they were nearly inseparable for weeks after he broke up with Kristen Stewart. And though the stars insist that they’re just friends, now that Rob is the one comforting Katy following her split from John Mayer, the friendship reportedly has a good chance of developing into something much steamier!
“Rob has made [Katy] promise to count on him for support, like she did for him when he split for Kristen Stewart,” a source told OK! magazine. “The question is, how much comforting will go — they always had this really flirtatious relationship.”
R-Patz has been extremely busy with filming, and Katy with touring, but they were reportedly finally able to see each other when the “Teenage Dream” singer returned from an Australian promo tour at the end of March. “He’s already proving to be a total rock for her,” the source added.
It’s true that these two are very close, and they definitely have chemistry (remember the karaoke clip where Katy sat on Rob’s lap?). That being said, it may still be too soon for Rob’s TLC to spur a hookup. “Katy’s too torn up for now to think about jumping into bed with anyone,” the source said, “but even she has joked that Rob would make an excellent revenge hookup! They do have a wonderful friendship, and they trust each other. No matter how down she is, Rob can always make her laugh, and she loves that.”
But not so fast, guys. Even though Rob has been the perfect friend to Katy — and even though their hotness and chemistry is off the charts — their relationship is not sexual at all, a source tells.
“They are two beautiful, flirty and charismatic people and when outsiders look at it, that makes it look like they must hook up,” the source wisely points out. “But the truth is they have always been with someone so they have become great friends instead. Anytime that it had the chance to become more has passed.”
It really sounds like they’re strictly friends: “Rob has absolutely no interest in hooking up with Katy,” another source tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “They are close friends, but that’s it. She was there for Rob when he split with Kristen and he’s been helping her deal with getting over John, like offering advice, but that’s it.”
