Looking back 10 years ago, I would say the entertainment industry got its major transition from poorly represented movies to a somewhat better type of representation. In other words that was when the growth began in NOLLYWOOD and even the music scene. The likes of Dbanj, 2 face, Banky W, Wizkid, Davido, Iyanya, just to name a few started up and made it within the past decade. Even endorsement deals, international collaborations and foreign deals and awards were received by artistes in the country.
So when I say there is hope for the future, I mean the entertainment industry in a decade from now could be the best in the world. #justsaying

Immigration Stampede: PDP Mourns Victims, Demands Immediate Investigation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for immediate investigation of the death of some Nigerians who died during stampede at the recruitment exercise at the National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted the exercise simultaneously throughout the 36 states of the federation and FCT. Mr Olisa Metuh, National Publicity Secretary of the party, made the call in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

He also called on the Ministry of Interior and relevant government agencies, to immediately swing into action to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the stampede.

Metuh further urged government agencies and parastatals, as well as all PDP elected and appointed officials at all levels of government to redouble their efforts in curbing unemployment in the country.

This, the party spokesman added, was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan's Transformation Agenda and the PDP manifesto. He said the party was shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the untimely death of the young citizens who were at the exercise.

He said the victims were not at the venue only to secure jobs but also to be allowed the opportunity to contribute toward the development of the nation. Metuh added that it was unfortunate and disheartening that the victims paid the supreme price while trying to be more useful to the nation He commiserated with the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

NAN reports that the authorities of National Hospital, Abuja, on Saturday confirmed the death of seven persons among 67,000 Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) job applicants in the FCT.

Mr Tayo Haastrup, the spokesman for the hospital, told NAN that the dead included five women and two men adding that their bodies had been deposited at the mortuary

While she is showing no signs of any discomfort from the procedure, Cyrus did post a Twitpic of herself with a washcloth covering her face earlier in the day.

Cyrus confirmed at the time that the tattoo is of her grandmother, also known as "mammie," after a fan tweeted the star asking whom the portrait was of on her right forearm.

Mark Zuckerberg Founder of Facebook calls Obama to complain about NSA

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg called President Obama on Wednesday night to express frustration about the government’s spying and hacking programs.
“When our engineers work tirelessly to improve security, we imagine we’re protecting you against criminals, not our own government,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

It may seem disingenuous for the leader of a giant tech company that hoards your data (and sells it wholesale) to point an angry finger at government surveillance. But Zuckerberg’s complaint is specifically aimed at one thing: hacking.
His concerns are based on the latest investigative report from The Intercept, which revealed that the National Security Agency has weaponized the Internet, making it possible to inject bad software into innocent peoples’ computers en masse.

NEW: Chris Brown Arrested AGAIN!, This time for violating probation

Chris Brown is behind bars. The singer was arrested by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies on Friday, March 14 after Brown violated his probation.

The singer, 24, was taken into custody by deputies on Friday, March 14 in Malibu, Calif. Brown was "cooperative" during his arrest, according to a statement released Friday by the sheriff's department. He is currently being held without bail in the Inmate Reception Center of the Los Angeles County jail in downtown L.A.

A warrant was issued for Brown after the singer was booted from the Malibu rehab facility, where he has been seeking treatment for the last four months. During a court appearance last month, the facility confirmed that Brown had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, severe insomnia, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The exact cause to why Brown was booted remains unknown, but TMZ reported Friday that it was unrelated to violence or drugs.

Brown voluntarily checked himself into rehab on Oct. 29 after he allegedly assaulted a man in Washington, D.C. He was ordered during his court appearance on Feb. 28 to remain in rehab for two more months.

SELFIE CRAZE: US Airways Passenger Takes Selfie After Her Plane Crashes In Philadelphia

The skies have been strangely unfriendly this past week.
First Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 carrying 239 people seemingly disappears into thin air, and then today a US Airways jet blew a tire and crashed upon takeoff in Philadelphia.
Happily, all 154 people on board, including five crew members, were fine and, ultimately, the close shave ended up turning into a once-in-a-lifetime (one hopes, anyway) photo opportunity.
"So my plane just crashed," tweeted @han_horan, who posted a pic of the plane tilted nose-first into the ground but otherwise pretty intact.

"I almost just died," she also tweeted, before noting, "So yup," and  turning the camera on herself for a selfie that luckily you do not see every day.

Dennis Fee posted a pic to his Facebook of the rescue in progress—and reportedly the first photo of the crash site—that quickly went viral.

"Plane just crashed. But we are OK," he wrote.

The photo, which was presumably snatched up by some media outlet ASAP, shows Fee's fellow passengers disembarking via emergency slides. A little girl carrying a pink backpack is among those making her way through the runway-adjacent field where the plane went down.

Flight 1702 was taking off for Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., shortly after 6:30 p.m. ET when the accident happened.

"We believe the tire blew, causing the nose gear to collapse, while it was moving down the runway," a Philadelphia International Airport spokeswoman told USA Today.

Fee also snapped video that was posted to Instagram by ABC News, truly making this no-casualty crash the social media event of the day.

Bayern Munich chief jailed for tax evasion

Uli Hoeness sentenced to three and a half years after admitting unpaid tax on tens of millions held in Swiss accounts.

The president of Bayern Munich football club has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after admitting he evaded tax on millions of dollars of income.

Uli Hoeness sought leniency after admitting to court he withheld tax on money, which was held in secret Swiss bank accounts. However, the judge in his trial, Rupert Heindl, ruled on Thursday that Hoeness's disclosure was incomplete and thus did not meet rules required for an amnesty under German laws designed to encourage tax evaders to come clean.

Prosecutors originally charged Hoeness with evading tax on $4.8m of earnings. On the first day of the trial he stunned the court by admitting the figure was $25.8m. However, further state investigations showed that he in fact owed tax on a total of $37.92m.

Hoeness, 62, bowed his head and stared at the floor when the verdict was delivered in Munich, his face turning red.

"In the name of the people, Mr Ulrich Hoeness is sentenced for seven 

serious counts of tax evasion to a prison term of three years and six months," 

the judge said.

The case hinged on the question whether Hoeness, who as a player helped West Germany win the 1974 World Cup, fully co-operated with his voluntary disclosure. It shocked the nation and prompted thousands of other tax evaders to turn themselves in.

Hoeness apologised to the court and pleaded for leniency.

"I deeply regret my wrongdoing," he said on Monday. "I'm doing everything I can to put this unhappy chapter behind me."

Prosecutors had demanded a sentence of five and a half years' jail.

Tax evasion is a serious crime in Germany. Peter Graf, the late father of tennis champion Steffi Graf, was sentenced in 1997 to three years and nine months for evading $8.78m. He was released after 25 months.

Violence as voter registration begins in Osun

The continuous voters registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission which started in Osun State on Wednesday was marred with violence in some parts of the state.

The exercise is part of the preparations of the electoral body for the conduct of the August 9 governorship election coming up in the state.

The president praised the popular retail store for raising their minimum wage to $9 an hour in 2014 and $10 an hour in 2015, saying he will continue to push Congress to boost the minimum wage.
"At my State of the Union address, I stressed the importance of giving Americans a raise," he said. "I'm continuing to push Congress to boost minimum wage, but businesses and local governments can also act. Last week, I also wanted to lift up companies that are doing right by their employees.
"Gap announced that they are lifting their wages...will put money back in people's pockets. For a lot of folks who are starting out, that boost is good for families and the economy. The minimum wage not just going to teenagers, also people with families. People who are shopping should support companies that are doing right by their employees. Congrats to the Gap and I am very pleased with my sweaters," he said.

Frank Ocean in a Feud, Tells Chipotle to F**k Off

R&B crooner Frank Ocean recently got embroiled in a feud with major, fast food chain Chipotle!

The star had agreed to record a song for a campaign Chipotle was running a while back and they were so happy to have him on board that they immediately made an advance payment of over $200 000. However it would seem that the brand misrepresented their intentions as Ocean’s camp claims that the campaign was meant to be geared at promoting awareness about responsible farming practices.

Chris Brown Opens up a Modelling Agency

Fans are still waiting for Chris Brown to drop his long-delayed X album, but it seems like he's been busy working on some new ventures as well, one of which is a new modeling agency.

Breezy announced the launch of his new company, Legendary Faces, on Twitter Tuesday, with a link to the new website, and the handles of his casting director and photographer included.

If you're looking for music news, however, he followed up on Wednesday by revealing that his video for "Loyal" will be dropping soon. The track features Lil Wayne, French Montana and Too $hort, and it will appear on X when it finally arrives on May 5.

Songwriter Eric Bellinger, who worked with Brown on the singles "Fine China" and "Love More," gave MTV News a little insight on the project.

"I feel like Chris is dope because he's really, really versatile," Bellinger told MTV News in January. "And he's just growing a fanbase to where his sound could be international, it could be 'hood, it could be pop, it could be R&B, it could be rap; so it's definitely a bunch of different sounds... he's been perfecting them."

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton reunited over the weekend in Vancouver, marking the first time the two have been seen together since they announced they were splitting.

"FAKE PASTOR" in N3.1m Fraud

The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a fake pastor, Ndubuisi Ignatius, and 38 other suspects for allegedly engaging in various criminal activities across the state.
Ignatius was accused of disguising as a spiritual father, held one James Nwosu, living at Agbara in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, hostage and robbed  him of N3,190,000.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, while parading the 39 suspected criminals in Abeokuta, disclosed that the fake pastor, who had been a spiritual father to Nwosu’s family for over six months, was arrested February 25 after he allegedly defrauded his client.
Okoye further said that the fake man of God had confessed to the crime he was accused, adding that he would be charged to court after the completion of investigation on the matter.

Another pastor in Lagos, One Mayo Martins, who claims to be a pastor, was arraigned in a Yaba court for allegedly cutting the fingers of Saidat Faleya, a two year old-girl with a saw.
The girl’s mother said the incident happened when her daughter went to a neighbour’s room when she went to have her bath, and then was alerted about her daughter’s bleeding and dangling fingers.
In the court, Martins said he did not intentionally cut the girl’s fingers, though the police said he initially denied the allegation.
However, he was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety and was instructed to be in court for the next hearing on April 24.
Also, a teenager, one Avoseh Abraham, was docked in a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping an 80 year old woman, Mrs Martha Swotan.

WOW! An 11-Year-Old Boy Rode the Subway for 5 DAYS to Avoid Doing Chores

Eleven-year-old Kareem Granton is basically willing to do anything to get out of doing chores.
My man! Chores suck!
So Kareem ran away from his Brooklyn home last Wednesday and slept on the subway for five days while his mom, Precious, launched a citywide search for him, all because he did not want to clean up dog poop.
Well. That's not great.
"This came down to someone who just didn't want to do his chores," community activist Tony Herbert explained in a press conference, noting that Precious is a "very responsible mother" and there is no history of abuse and Kareem is not a chronic runaway.

Last Wednesday, he was told to pick up after the family dog, Queenie. He refused and ran away to Chuck E. Cheese with a friend. Afterwards, he didn't return. The family held a rally on Sunday to draw attention to Kareem's disappearance. Meanwhile, he was sleeping on the subway and surviving off $10 that his stepdad had given him.
Yesterday, a passerby noticed him and alerted police. "I just had a tantrum in the moment," Kareem later explained. "I knew my mom was looking for me. I didn't know it would turn into this big of a situation."
Gothamist reports that Kareem was too scared of being in trouble to call his mom. Meanwhile, the NYPD simply says, "He got lost. He didn't know how to get home." Now, Precious calls the reunion a "happy ending," and Herbert says Kareem "knows he's going to be punished."
After finding Kareem, hungry and disheveled, an NYPD officer, Dennis Grimm, brought him to McDonald's. Kareem ordered a McGriddle and played with Grimm's German shepherd, Dakota.
"He seemed to perk up a lot after he ate," Grimm says. "He was petting the dog...I think it helped his nerves to settle."
Yeah, just don't tell him to pick up that dog's poop.

I remember when she got American Idol. I said: 'This was really smart. Good luck.' I touch base. I respect her. I like her. Nigerian jailed 3 1/2 years for duping 81yr old pensioner in the UK

A 40 year old Nigerian man Chris Chidi Dinneya (pictured above) has been jailed for three and a half years for duping an 81 year old pensioner from Cambridge of £300,000 out of his life savings. Dinneya told the old man, who was not named publicly, that he had won the Spanish Lottery and the victim believed that he was set to receive a large payout that he continued to pay even after police launched an investigation. 

Police and a County Council were forced to apply for a court order to take control of the elderly victim's bank accounts to prevent him from sending more cash to the fraudster.

A number of the payments was traced to Dinneya who was promptly arrested. He was convicted on money laundering charges and jailed for a total of three-and-a-half years on March 4.

INHUMANE: Mother sells three-day-old baby for N260,000 in Akwa Ibom

According to a report by Punch, a nursing mother in Akwa Ibom named Imaobong Udoh (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly selling her 3-day old baby girl for N260,000.

Also arrested along with Imaobong were four persons for allegedly participating in the theft of the baby.
They are the buyer, Mrs. Regina James; her husband, Mfon James; the traditional birth attendant who delivered the baby, Mrs. Comfort Henry; and Mr Emmanuel Okon, a homeopathic doctor, who arranged the sale.

Justin Bieber's Trial Date for DUI Charges is May 5, Singer Does Not Get a Plea Deal

Justin Bieber's trial date has been set.
The 20-year-old pop star is scheduled to appear in a Florida court on May 5 to face charges stemming from his Jan. 23 DUI arrest after he was caught drag racing by police in Miami with his father Jeremy Bieber and friends.
In addition to driving under the influence, the "Boyfriend" singer will also face charges of resisting arrest and possessing an invalid driver's license. Bieber has pleaded not guilty and no plea deal has been made on his behalf.

The originally scheduled trial date for the Biebs was postponed after attorneys for the star fought against the release of jail surveillance videos that showed Bieber giving a urine sample for a drug test. While breath tests showed Bieber's blood-alcohol level was below the 0.02 limit for underage drivers, other tests detected marijuana and Xanax in his system at the time of his arrest.
Adding to Bieber's legal woes is a separate civil suit filed against him by a Miami photographer who claims he was assaulted by one of the singer's security guards. Bieber recently gave an hours-long deposition for the case in which he displayed less than cooperative behavior while being questioned by attorneys.
DUI charges aside and with the deposition in his past, Bieber took to Twitter yesterday to share this positive message with fans, writing, "Love how some people use to twist and justify the horrible action of others. We all have a right to defend ourselves and feel harassed."

Aliko Dangote ready to redeem $1million promise to Super Eagles

This Just in, Billionaire business man Aliko Dangote says he is ready to redeem his promise of awarding $1m to the Super Eagles for winning the 2013 African Cup of Nations last year in South Africa. He said this a few days after goal keeper and Super Eagles vice-captain Vincent Enyeama begged him and others who pledged various things to the team to fulfill their promises.
"We understand the busy schedule of Alhaji Dangote, we are just asking his aides to help remind him of the promise to us. It’s just a reminder to patriots who are very busy and may not have been prompted after they made their pledges, because the players are determined to bring more honours to fatherland at the forthcoming World Cup” Enyeama said
Speaking with BBC Sports, Dangote said the only reason he hasn't redeemed his promise was because nobody from the team or NFF had contacted him
"We’ve been waiting for Nigerian officials to collect the money but nobody has written to us. We will write to them, asking for the account numbers of the players, then we’ll make the transfer immediately.”

Nicki and long-time friend Safaree spark engagement rumors with matching diamond rings.

Is Nicki Minaj finally telling us her secret? Because she had to know that Instagram photos of herself and Safaree Samuels, wearing matching diamond rings, would get tongues wagging.

The Young Money rapper hit Cabo San Lucas last weekend to vacation with a few friends, including including Samuels (b.k.a. "Scaff Beezy"), who is rumored to be her longtime boyfriend. Nicki has never publicly admitted (or denied) that she's dating Safaree but he can usually be spotted by her side, now serving as CEO and executive producer of her Pink Friday Productions.

She posted a few photos from the trip, including one where you can get a clear shot of her and Safaree's matching rings on their left hands. No caption necessary, obviously.

Just a day before heading out on vacation, she shared a photo of teddy bears and roses she received, presumably from Safaree. "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. #Year10," the caption read, hinting that Nicki and Safaree were celebrating their 10th anniversary of dating.

Nicki was taking some time off just days before the new album Young Money: Rise of an Empire drops on March 11. She's featured on the recent singles "Lookin' Ass" and "Senile" with Lil Wayne and Tyga.
