Violence broke out in the halls of Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Connecticut at around 7:15 a.m. this morning when a teenage boy attacked and killed a fellow classmate who declined his invitation to go to junior prom with him.
The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Maren Sanchez, who was pushed down the stairs before the assailant choked and stabbed her in the neck.
She was rushed to the Bridgeport Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The attacker has been identified as Chris plakson.
Classmate Sam Garcia described the bloody scene, saying:
"There was blood on her neck. It was awful. I saw the girl lying on the stretcher when they took her out."
The school was initially placed on lockdown, but students were eventually released at 9 a.m. after police arrived on the scene.
The junior prom was set to take place tonight, however, it's not clear if the event will be rescheduled yet.
It so sad to hear of someone's life being taken away at such a young age, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Maren's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
Her friends held a vigil for her to mourn her death.
