On February 14, 2013 celebrated athlete Oscar Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp who was a model. Today a Judge in South Africa sentenced him to five year in jail for the shooting his girlfriend.

The sentence was imposed for the charge of culpable homicide, which in South Africa means a person was killed unintentionally, but unlawfully.
Under South African law, he will have to serve at least one-sixth of his sentence -- 10 months -- before he can ask to be considered for parole.He is possible to serve less time and get correctional supervision, it is still unknown whether the state will appeal or not. the state has 14 days to decide whether or not it wants to appeal.
