EFCC begins trial of Fani Kayode over money laundery

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission  on Monday commenced the trial of a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, at a Federal High Court, Lagos.

Fani-Kayode is standing trial on an amended 40 counts bordering on money laundering.

At the re-arraignment of Fani-Kayode on Monday, the prosecutor, Mr. Festus Keyamo, called his first witness, Mr. Okechukwu Okeke, to give his testimony.

Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Okeke, a relationship officer with the First City Monument Bank Plc, told the court that the accused maintained an account with FCMB, adding that his account had become dormant.

He alleged that the account of the accused was first domiciled with First Atlantic Bank before it was acquired by Fin Bank which was later acquired by FCMB.

According to the witness, as a relationship officer with the bank, he had the account history of customers.

He said he was given a letter by the legal department of his bank to verify the account history of the accused.

The witness, however, told the court that although the account was inactive, he still had details of transactions stored in the computer.

At this point, the prosecutor then tendered a statement of account of the accused between August 2008 and September 2012.

He informed the court that he was unable to produce the statement of account of the accused between 2004 and 2008 when he served as a minister.

He said he had written a letter to the bank to obtain the statements, and was told to come back in one week.

The Defence counsel, Mr Ifedayo Adedipe, did not oppose the submissions of the prosecutor.

Following this development, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia adjourned the case to March 18 for continuation of trial.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Fani-Kayode was first arraigned in December 2008 on a 47 counts.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and Justice Ramat Mohammed granted him bail in the sum of N200m with two sureties in like sum.

He was re-arraigned with Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako as the trial judge following the transfer of Mohammed out of Lagos Division.

NAN also reports that Fani-Kayode was again re-arraigned the third time on February 11, 2013, with Justice Ajumogobia taking charge following the transfer of Murtala-Nyako.

Oscar Pistorious Murder Trial: Athlete Vomits in Court During Reeva Steenkamp Autopsy Testimony

Oscar Pistorious's became visibly ill in court during a testimony on Monday by Professor Gery Saayman, a pathologist who performed the autopsy on Reeva Steenkamp's body.
During the proceedings, Saayman explained gruesome, graphic details about the injuries the former model sustained after she was fatally shot.
The Olympian threw up numerous times while sitting on his dock and listening to the details about the three bullet wounds. He also began crying so much that Judge Thokozile Masipa asked Pistorious' chief defense attorney, Barry Roux, to check on his client.
Roux told the court that Pistorious was not going to be able to change his reaction to the testimony, but that Saayman could proceed. A bucket and plastic bag were then placed at Pistorious' feet.

Masipa ordered that the testimony would not be broadcast or reported live on Twitter by journalists in attendance Monday, as the explicit content was not suitable for public consumption.
Reporters, however, were allowed to report on the testimony without directly quoting the witness.
Saayman claimed that the three bullet wounds, on Steenkamp's head, arm and right hip area, were consistent with "ranger" bullets which expand upon impact in order to cause maximum tissue damage.
Issues were also raised during today's testimony regarding who made the first call to the authorities after the shooting, Pistorious or a security guard named Pieter Baba.
Both claim that they were the first ones to alert the police on Valentine's Day last year.
If convicted of premeditated murder, Pistorious could face a minimum of 25 years in prison. He could also get five years for each of the three gun indictments he's been charged with.

Jay Z turns down Kanye west offer to be his best man because of KUWTK

Jay z has rejected Kanye west's plea to be his best man at his upcoming wedding to reality star Kim Kardashian due to not wanting Beyonce and daughter blue Ivy shown on the Kardashian show.

As the nuptials will be on Tv, Beyonce isn't happy about it according to sources so Jay will not participate so as not to cause a family problem.

A source explained: "Jay is Kanye's closest friend so he wants him to be best man.

Jay agreed initially but had one condition - under no circumstances can there be any reality TV shows filming him, his wife, Beyoncé or daughter Blue Ivy during the ceremony.

The thought of popping up in KUWTK mortifies Beyoncé. She purposefully keeps herself away from trashy TV and isn't prepared to lower her standards for anyone, or any occasion.

Boko Haram confesses before T.B Joshua, reveals failed plans to bomb the church

Wonders shall never End. The congregation at the Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) were stunned yesterday when a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect confessed before Pastor T.B. Joshua, revealing how their plan to bomb the popular church in Lagos was thwarted.

In a broadcast beamed live via the Christian station, Emmanuel TV, late into the afternoon, Joshua announced to the congregation that a young man had a confession to make.

"My name is Mustapha. I come from Yola, Adamawa State. I am a member of Boko Haram," he began, sending the congregation into uproar. "Boko Haram is a cult. We have killed many souls," he confessed.

Mustapha explained further: "When I joined this cult, they wrote something with Arabic Language. After writing it, they washed it and I drunk it. That is the day I had the mind to kill souls."

While explaining their plan to bomb the church and how it failed, the secret sect member explained said: "We were five in number. We dropped at the junction opposite the church. There was a man who used to sell something opposite the church here. He is selling sweets, soap and cigarettes. I met the man and asked him to help me keep the bag I was carrying. It contained some instruments - bombs, to destroy people.
"Later, we decided to sit down and eat before going on our mission here. Our plan was to take souls, to destroy at this Synagogue Church."

"We can set the bomb to explode in one minute or ten minutes. We planned to set it for five minutes and immediately leave the place. All the souls will go."

However, whilst sitting down to eat with his colleagues at a restaurant opposite the popular church in Ikotun-Egbe, Mustapha recounted a strange incident. "They brought food for us and we were eating. At that place, they had television. We were watching the television and discussing. It was Emmanuel TV - I saw you (T.B. Joshua) preaching to people.

"By the time you prayed and laid hands on the screen, it was like you were there with us and you joined our midst. As you laid your hands on the screen, you laid your hands on our face. That was when confusion came between us; everybody scattered.

"Since that day, I wanted to go home but I am not fit. Any time I lie down, I will be seeing you (T.B. Joshua) in my dream. You are disturbing me. I don't know what I did to you. The thing is bothering me too much."

Asked to explain further, Mustapha sadi: "In my dream yesterday, you told me that the group of Boko Haram would not exist again. I want to go but I don't have the spirit to do it again. I don't sleep in the night; I always see you. You are disturbing me. You keep praying for me and laying hands on me. I want to sleep well. I cannot close my eyes without seeing you (T.B. Joshua). Please, help me."

Several hours after the sect member gave his initial confession, Pastor Joshua brought the young man forward again, stating that God had warned him of the impending attack several weeks ago, prompting him to go into intense prayers.

"I have been in a serious battle for the past two weeks. Those who looked at my knees yesterday will know that this is what I wore last week," Joshua stated.

"It was not a surprise to me because I have seen it. My mission is to separate him from the spirit that is controlling him to do that. We are not to fight mere flesh and blood," the pastor explained.

Mustapha continued: "I cannot sleep or close my eyes. Even now, I am feeling a headache because I have not slept at night. Any time I lie down and I want to sleep, I will see you in my dream, praying for me and disturbing me."

As he was prayed upon, the Boko Haram member fell violently on the floor. He managed to get back up but fell again at the prayer of Joshua. He then began to vomit some strange substances.
When asked about a tattoo of a scorpion emblazoned on his shoulder, he replied: "This is the tattoo they gave to me in the cult. All of us have this tattoo."

Mustapha, who explained it was his very first time in a church, confessed that, "We have never failed before. There is an operation we did at an airforce base in Maiduguri recently. Even we went to Adamawa State in Michika two weeks ago. We have never failed."

Stretching his hand towards Mustapha again, Joshua prayed once again and the young man fell to the floor. As he got up slowly from the floor, tears were in the eyes of Mustapha. "The spirit leading him to kill is gone," Joshua declared to applause from the onlookers.

Rihanna and Drake Grab Dinner in London After Wining and Dining in Amsterdam

Well, this isn't going to do much to stop those Rihanna and Drake romance rumors.
After stepping out for a dinner date in Amsterdam Thursday, the "Take Care" collaborators were back together again Saturday, grabbing dinner in London.
For this particular occasion, Rihanna was dressed casually in a Dead Boys Clubhouse hooded sweatshirt, a black coat, and ripped jeans, while Drake was suited up in a dark grey coat and jeans.
This is the second time in just days that the duo was spotted out together, after they wined and dined at a sushi restaurant in Amsterdam. Before that, they headed to Soixante Dix Neuf nightclub in Paris, where Drake was on hand to help the venue celebrate its first birthday.

Rihanna was by the rapper's side for the majority of the evening as he took over DJ duties at the venue. This was after she popped up for a surprise performance at Drake's concert in the City of Lights and grinded on him on stage.

FA CUP: Wigan Beats Man City and will Arsenal in the semi final

FA Cup holders Wigan booked a semi-final date with Arsenal after stunning Manchester City in a 2-1 win at The Etihad.

Jordi Gomez and James Perch struck as Wigan kept their defence going with an heroic display on Sunday afternoon.

Gomez converted a penalty after more bad defending by the erratic Martin Demichelis and Perch tapped in early in the second half as the holders booked a semi-final date with Arsenal at Wembley.

Samir Nasri did pull one back with a 20-yard half-volley on 68 as City produced a strong finish but they were unable to prevent a repeat of Wigan’s shock victory in last year’s final at Wembley.

The result was a tactical triumph for former City striker Uwe Rosler, who has revived Wigan’s fortunes since taking over as manager in December.

For City boss Pellegrini, the decision to leave the likes of Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Fernandinho out of his starting line-up – with Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Barcelona in mind – backfired.

A week ago his side produced a fightback to snatch the Capital One Cup from Sunderland but they could not repeat the feat and hopes of a domestic treble are over.

The richest man in Africa and 23rd in the world, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has shared his timeless business principle. It is a principle he learnt from his grandfather, which has helped grow his business and make him the richest black man on earth with an estimated net worth of $25 billion as of March 2014.

He is the owner of the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities with operations in Nigeria and several other countries in Africa, including Benin, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana, South Africa and Zambia
Dangote Group with its dominance in the sugar market and refinery business is the main supplier (70% of the market) to the Nigerias soft drinks companies, breweries and confectioners. It is the largest refinery in Africa and the third largest in the world, producing 800,000 tonnes of sugar annually.
Apart from these, Dangote Group owns salt factories and flour mills and is a major importer of rice, fish, pasta, cement and fertilizer. The company exports cotton, cashew nuts, cocoa, sesame seed and ginger to several countries. It also has major investments in real estate, banking, transport, textiles and oil and gas. Barcelona Title win options gets SLIMMER!!!

There has been an awkwardness about Barca these last few weeks and a lack of synchronisation cost them dear here. Valladolid looked capable of breaching them from the get-go with Manucho stealing in early on to sting the palms of Victor Valdes. There was none of the intricate passing play characteristic of the team from Camp Nou. There were long shots, direct free kicks and counterattacks where once there would have been neat one-twos and intelligent link-up play. They had the ball, yes, but they did not do anything worthwhile with it. 

Barca could scarcely find their way behind Jesus Rueda and Stefan Mitrovic in the centre of the Valladolid defence and the performances of the full-back Antonio Rukavina and left-midfielder Zakaraya Bergdich were also top rate. When the chances came, moreover, Valladolid were more telling in front of goal. 

Fausto Rossi's first-half strike was as avoidable for Barca as it was welcome for the hosts. The ball bounced around the Barca area as Gerard Pique and Adriano failed to clear their lines and the Italian drilled home. 

From Lionel Messi at the other end there were mere flickers. His best chances, tellingly, were created alone. A couple of speedy bursts yielded shots on target in either half but Diego Marino in the Valladolid goal stood tall. This, however, was not one of those underdog victories which owed everything to the goalkeeper; Valladolid were good value for their win. 

And even when Barca carved out a clear-cut chance for Neymar, the only one of the game from their perspective, he contrived to fire over. Not long afterwards, he was hooked by Tata Martino. Pique was given similar treatment after a clumsy booking, sacrificed so Sergio Busquets could slot in at centre-back to generate attacks. Barca remained slack though and could even have gone two behind. 

After Messi had lobbed another free kick into the clutches of Marino, the substitutes Rama and Oscar combined after the former showed Javier Mascherano a clean pair of heels. 

Barca in the closing stages simply did not play like a team who were fighting like their title credentials depended on it. There was nothing to enliven their spirits; there was possession and territory, as usual, but no cutting edge. 

The form of Neymar in this match will in particular be a concern for Martino. He jetted to South Africa and scored a hat-trick for Brazil in midweek and looked like he had a ball. Here was the comedown. 

Busquets spelt out plainly what the woeful display now means. "We did not have the right attitude. We made things very difficult for ourselves," he said. "It's a very tough loss. We're now in a difficult situation in La Liga."

Indeed, Barcelona's Liga destiny seems to be out of their hands. They have 11 games left - two of which are against the Madrid big boys while Villarreal away will be no cakewalk either. Indeed, on this form, it is hard to scan the fixture list and pick out a safe three points for the Catalans. That is evidence enough of how shoddy they have been in 2014. Ten league matches and only five wins - that is not title form, not with Real Madrid now clear at the top of the table and it is theirs to lose.

Presidential drama: President Jonathan’s N9bn jet refuses to fly

President Goodluck Jonathan and some top government officials on Saturday escaped an air mishap at the Minna Airport, Niger State, when a presidential jet developed a technical fault, while they were aboard.

The presidential jet, Nigerian Air Force 001 (5N-FGT), had earlier conveyed Jonathan to Minna for the -Peoples Democratic Party’s North-Central rally which held at the Trade Fair Centre, Minna.

At the end of the rally, the President returned to the airport in company with top government officials, PDP state governors and party chiefs for a trip to Sokoto, from where he was scheduled to return to Abuja.

However, several minutes after Jonathan had bade farewell to those who accompanied him to the airport, and the door of the aircraft was shut, the aircraft failed to move.

After many attempts, crew members and engineers disembarked from the aircraft and made spirited efforts to fix the fault as armed security men took strategic positions around it.

While this was going on, Vice-President Namadi Sambo; President of the Senate, David Mark; all PDP governors, members of the National Assembly and members of the Federal Executive Council were watching under the scorching sun.

When it became obvious that the fault could not be easily fixed, the commander of the Presidential Air Fleet, Air Vice Marshal Uko Ebong, ordered that a smaller presidential jet, 5N-FGW, which conveyed the Vice-President to the state be brought to fly Jonathan.

Jonathan disembarked from the faulty jet at about 3.30pm and quickly moved to the smaller aircraft.

He later left the airport in the smaller aircraft at about 3:35pm, leaving behind some of his co-occupants in the bigger jet.

Sambo also had to join Mark in another smaller presidential jet, 5N-FGV, which had earlier conveyed the Senate President to the state. Senator Barnabas Gemade and a few other dignitaries also joined them.

Those who were with the President in the faulty aircraft before they disembarked included the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu; Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih; former chairman of the party,  Ahmadu Ali; former  Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, and some presidential aides.

At the time of filing this report, engineers were still battling with the faulty jet on the tarmac in the deserted airport while officials of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria were seen taking notes.

Some security men were left behind to keep watch on the aircraft.

When asked for what was wrong with the aeroplane, an official of FAAN simply said, “The return engine refused to pick.”

Another source who pleaded anonymity, said the hot temperature in the city led to the fault.

“What the commander said was that the high temperature affected the engine of the aircraft,” he said.

When asked why the hot weather did not affect the two other presidential jets, the source explained that the Air Force 001 is “more digitalised than others.”

The incident occurred despite the fact that in the past four years, at least N48bn has been allocated to the Presidential Air Fleet, a range of 11 luxurious aircraft which are at the disposal of the President.

According to the 2014 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in December 2013, a total of N4.91bn was earmarked for the Presidential Air Fleet.

For the maintenance of the 10 aircraft currently in the Presidential Air Fleet, N1.52bn was allocated.

This was apart from the N747m earmarked for the purchase of aviation fuel for the aircraft already in the fleet.

The government earmarked the sum of N2.66bn for other expenses on the PAF, including international trainings for the fleet’s personnel, rehabilitation/renovation/repairs of the PAF Barracks, completion of a hangar project, tyre bay tools and equipment, insurance premium, cleaning and fumigation services, 797 units of LG 2HP air conditioners for the PAF Barracks and refreshment and meals.

For the year 2013, a total of N7.5bn was allocated the Presidential Air Fleet, while in 2012, N15.6m was allocated for personnel costs; N969m for overheads, which included spare parts, checks, aviation fuel; and N16.8bn was allocated for a brand new plane for the presidency.

In 2011, an N18bn allocation to the PAF was tucked under a N105bn budgetary allocation to the “Intelligence Community.”

Also, in the 2010 proposal, the Presidency had proposed the acquisition of four new aircraft for the presidential fleet and had made a budget provision of N23.4bn in that budget for them.

Experts have put the combined estimated value of the 10 planes in the presidential fleet at about $390.5m (N60.53bn).

50 armed men invade Enugu Govt House, 1 killed and 3 arrested

Armed attack by about 50 young men on Government House, Enugu in the early hours of yesterday was repelled by security operatives attached to the state seat of power.
There was heavy shooting by the security operatives comprising policemen, men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and soldiers who prevented the assailants from gaining entry into the official residence of Governor Sullivan Chime.
One of the invaders was shot dead, three arrested while others escaped. Several machetes were recovered from them.
Although the mission of the young men, who were said to be armed with machetes and carrying flags with different inscriptions and insignia belonging to some secret cults, was unknown, an eyewitness said they arrived the Government House at about 4.30 am in buses.
They reportedly parked their vehicles and marched to the Government House gate where they met security operatives.
The attackers were said to have told the security men to open the gate claiming they were at the Government House on protest, but when one the NSCDC officials opened the gate to ask why they decided to come in the night, one of the invaders attacked him with machete and tried to force the gate open for his colleagues to go in.
This attracted other security operatives in the Government House who rushed out only to see many of attackers carrying machetes and were giving orders to their colleagues to move into the Government House.
The Chief Security Officer to Chime, Mr. Fidelis Ogarabe, DSP, who rushed to the scene after he was alerted by his men, immediately took control of the situation as the security operatives repelled the invaders after hours of shooting.
The security operatives pursued the assailants from the Government House premises into the Independence Layout. It was in the process that three of the attackers were arrested while another was shot dead.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chime, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, confirmed the attack, yesterday, saying vigilant security personnel attached to the Government House Enugu early this morning foiled an armed attack on the Government House.”
Achife narrated further: “The attack occurred when at about 4.30 am a group of young men numbering about 50 and carrying machetes and cutlasses invaded the Government House and tried to force their way in.
“The attackers were immediately engaged by the security personnel who shot dead one person and arrested three. One security personnel was injured in the attack.
The governor’s spokesman added that the arrested persons along with some of the weapons recovered (matchetes) have since been handed over to the Enugu State Police Command for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the three suspects who were taken to the New Haven Police station were later transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad office along the Enugu–Onitsha expressway.
The three suspects, sources said, identified themselves as natives of Aguleri, Anambra East. Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Rosler: I won't show Man City sentiment

The Wigan manager takes his side back to the Blues, the club he played for between 1994 and 1998 but says he will not go easy on Manuel Pellegrini's team

Uwe Rosler faces an emotional return when Wigan Athletic face Manchester City, but he has no intention of doing his old side a favour.

The German takes his side to the Etihad Stadium for a repeat of last season's FA Cup final - won 1-0 by Wigan - in a quarter-final tie in this year's edition in the famous competition.

Rosler enjoyed a four-year stint at City between 1994 and 1998 during his playing career, and has credited the City supporters with helping him through his cancer battle, after being diagnosed with the illness in 2003.

The 45-year-old is looking forward to returning, but insists there will be no room for sentiment as he attempts to orchestrate a route to the semi-finals for the Championship outfit.

"They [the City fans] helped me on my way to recovery," he said. "In 2003, I was just recovering from cancer and finished with my treatment.

"I went there to say thank you for the support I got from the club and from the supporters and it was a very emotional moment. Now, 11 years later, I'm here with a wonderful football club as a manager. So it is quite a story.

"The emotions will be there but I also know that I'm a very professional guy and I'll focus on the job in hand.

"I gave them a DVD from that game [the FA Cup final] and from the league game. There is opportunities for us, but not a lot. We have to make sure we make them count. You never know. We'll see what happens.

"We come in off the back of a very strong month and we want to keep the momentum going. Obviously, Manchester City come back off winning a cup, winning the first trophy this season, and I think that makes them hungry.

"That is not good news for us. [but) I think they know that our team can cause them problems, so I think they will take us seriously."

Preview, Team News, Likely Line-Ups, Key Man For Arsenal vs Everton

Arsenal play host to Premier League rivals Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

We’ve already faced some stiff competition in previous rounds with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the third round followed up by a 2-1 win over Liverpool last time out, so if we’re going to win the Cup, we’re certainly doing it the hard way.



With Manchester City the only other ‘big’ team left in this years competition, the winners of tomorrow’s clash will have a great chance of going all the way, so it’s for that reason I hope Arsene Wenger isn’t planning on fielding a weakened side ahead of Tuesday’s second leg against Bayern Munich.

The FA Cup represents a fantastic opportunity to end our trophy drought and I’d hate to see us throw it away because of a game that we’re highly unlikely to rescue given that we need to turn-around a 2-0 deficit away at the best team in Europe.

If we are to beat Everton we’re going to have to play a lot better than we did last week when our title bid was dented with a 1-0 loss to Stoke City.

The Toffees have had a much easier route to the last eight, having beaten QPR, Stevenage and Swansea, but they are an impressive outfit on their day and Roberto Martinez proved last year with Wigan that he knows what it takes to go all the way in this tournament.

Jack Wilshere will miss the game after being ruled out for six weeks with a broken foot that was picked up while playing for England on Wednesday.

Arsene has also confirmed that Laurent Koscielny is a doubt after feeling a tight hamstring during training with France on Tuesday, and I don’t think we’ll see the boss take any chances with him, so Thomas Vermaelen is likely to come in at the back.

Youngster Yaya Sanogo started in the previous round against Liverpool and I think we’ll see him play once more with Wenger taking the opportunity to rest Olivier Giroud.

Nacho Monreal is also still a doubt with an ankle problem so Kieran Gibbs is expected to continue at left-back, while Aaron Ramsey and Kim Kallstrom are due to return from injury next weekend against Spurs. Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby remain absent.

Everton are expected to be without key centre-back Phil Jagielka after he missed the England game with a hamstring strain. However, Antolin Alcaraz is fit and will deputise alongside Sylvain Distin.

Joel Robles has started in all the previous rounds so we should expect to see him once again, while Romelu Lukaku is likely to start having come off the bench to score the winner against West Ham last week.

Lacina Traore is out with a hamstring strain so he joins Bryan Oviedo, Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone on the sidelines.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: The Ox has been in good form of late and I think his pace is going to play a key role tomorrow. Without Walcott, Arsenal lack raw pace which invites opposition teams to push higher up the pitch and limit the space in midfield. Therefore, the Ox is going to have to make sure he stretches the Everton back-line with plenty of runs in behind to keep them from pushing up and pressing us too much.

Arsenal 1-0 Everton: I think this is going to be a close game, particularly if Arsene rests some of his key men, but I think we’ll have just enough to book a date at Wembley in the semi-finals.

Barcelona worried about Manchester City - Fernandinho

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho believes his side gave the Spanish champions a scare in their 2-0 first leg defeat in the last sixteen of the Champions League last month.

The Citizens will travel to the Camp Nou for the second leg this month hoping to overturn the two-goal deficit suffered in the first leg after City were reduced to ten men when Martin Demichelis was dismissed by the referee.

Following the game, City captain Vincent Kompany had stated the Catalans were ‘there for the taking’ which brought former Manchester Unite captain, ITV pundit Roy Keane to claim the Belgian enforcer didn’t know what he was talking about.

However, his teammate Fernandinho believes not only that City ‘rattled’ Barcelona but that they can go out and get a result in Catalonia.

"We had them worried. We managed to put them under pressure and there were situations in which the Barcelona guys didn't feel confident to try to use their passing game. They were rattling the ball to where their noses were pointing. We rattled them," explained the Brazilian.

The clash will see City star midfielder Yaya Toure return to the Camp Nou to face his former club on home turf – the Ivorian midfielder signed from Barcelona for £24 million in the summer of 2010 after three years with the Spanish giants in La Liga.

Fernandinho believes it will be an interesting night, not only for his teammate, but for City who intend to give last term’s Champions League semi-finalists more than a thing or two to worry about.

"It will be a special match for Yaya but he never made a big deal out of it. He moved on to a new challenge, just like of all of us who joined City. We have something special going on here and the players know it," he added.

“We do have to envisage pushing Barcelona to the limit because this will also give the club the belief that we are getting mileage at this tournament. And a win can help us get into a better pot in next year's draw to say the least."

City will need to score two away goals to level the tie but as the team who has scored the most goals by this point that any other team in Premier League history, you can be sure they have the firepower to give it a go.

Manchester United and Liverpool could be about to miss out on Nicolas Gaitan, with reports from Portuguese newspaper Record cited by talkSPORT claiming that Benfica are set to hand the talented playmaker a new contract to remain at the club.
