Why LASU Authorities Postpone Students’ Union Activity

According to the authority of the university, inauguration could not hold due to the three-week closure of the institution following a violent student protest on January 23 over hike in fees.

Prof. Kabir Akinyemi, Dean of Students Affairs told newsmen that the protest affected the inauguration of the executive council.

"The inauguration can only be done when academic activities have been fully restored," he said.

Akinyemi said the clamour for the inauguration of the union executive by some final year students was unrealistic, saying it will not be done until the final batch of students resumed.

He said, "We cannot allow the elected students for the executive seats of the union to gain entrance into the campus because they are not final year students.

"For now school has not re-opened for their batch.

"The management will only consider the inauguration when the final batch resumes for security purposes."

He advised the past executive members of the union, who would soon graduate, to attend the handing over ceremony.
