Joan Rivers Is dead, she died today thursday September 4th 2014. E! online reports that the Comic Legend Passes Away After Being Taken Off Life Support. She was surrounded by her family and friends at the time of her death.

Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, released the following statement: "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."

Rivers had been hospitalized at New York City's Mount Sinai since Thursday, Aug. 28, when she stopped breathing while undergoing an outpatient procedure on her vocal cords. After being admitted in critical condition that morning, she was placed in a medically induced coma.
